Oral Surgery (Extractions)

When a tooth has experienced damage or extreme tooth decay and regular means of restoration is not possible, it may need to be removed by means of an extraction.  An extraction is the removal of the tooth from its socket in the bone.   Teeth that have been damaged by decay or broken are candidates for extractions.  A number of issues can cause this damage and regular check-ups are vital to your family’s ongoing oral health.  >See our locations

Wisdom for the Ages

An impacted wisdom tooth can occur at any time in an individual whose permanent teeth have set in, regardless of age.  There are many reasons an extraction may be necessary, including:  severe tooth decay or infection or possibly making room in the mouth to allow room for braces or denture.   Most commonly the extraction is of an impacted wisdom tooth.

You might be in pain and need an emergency dentist.  Summit Dental’s team of professionals will provide you with an accurate analysis of your dental x-rays, assuring you of a swift resolution to your oral health issue.  There are simple extractions which usually only involve local anesthetic to remove visible teeth and surgical extractions used for removing teeth beneath the gum surface which are impacted and adversely affecting your teeth and jaw.  These usually require general anesthesia and involve a surgical incision to remove the tooth which is usually broken up into multiple pieces in order to facilitate its removal from the patient’s mouth.
