Summit Dental Center office hours are not impacted by the coronavirus outbreak at this time, and dental implants are a great way to keep on smiling!

While infectious disease experts advise Americans to stay away from doctors’ offices as much as possible and delay elective healthcare treatments – to avoid exposure to the coronavirus as well as to prevent an overwhelming of the health care system – dentist offices are up and running as usual.

To be sure, Summit Dental Center is highly aware of the potential threat this virus represents, and we’re very carefully following sanitation and disinfection protocols. Still, this could be a great time to get the dental implants you always wanted to improve your smile and put some new confidence in your step.

Why get dental implants now?

Summit Dental Center prosthodontists (dental implant specialists) are on standby to consult with you on how to achieve the smile you deserve. Whereas many businesses are beginning to slow or modify their operations, we are here to serve our patients’ needs.

Dental offices are superbly prepared and equipped to sanitize, disinfect, and keep patients safe – after all, it is standard practice in adherence to strict regulations and protocols that are in place year-round, always. Learn more about Summit Dental Center’s coronavirus preparedness here.

Why get dental implants, period?

Dental implants are the gold standard in tooth replacement. More than 3 million Americans wear them, and odds are nobody ever knows they do. That’s because dental implants have many advantages over traditional dentures and dental bridges.

  • A perfect look

For starters, dental implants typically cannot be distinguished from natural teeth to the untrained eye (speak, dental professionals). The crown that tops the implant is often made of ultra-thin porcelain that features a color and translucence perfectly matched to fit in with a patient’s natural teeth.

  • A lifetime of smiles

In addition, dental implants are as durable as natural teeth – if not more so. The titanium “screw”, which is later topped by the dental crown mentioned above, if firmly anchored in the jawbone. It does not shift or slide, eliminating a common concern often expressed by denture-wearers. The screw, in short, acts like a natural tooth root and holds the crown firmly in place.

With proper care, a dental implant can last a lifetime!

  • A perfect fit

More about the crown – your Summit Dental Center prosthodontist will go to great lengths to ensure that the crown topping your new dental implant will be a perfect fit for your bite, in both size and shape. He or she will carefully take an impression of your existing teeth to perfectly integrate your new crown into your bite.

  • Ease of care

Forget about expensive cleaning products and repetitive dentist visits. Your dental implant – barring new or deteriorating health issues – shouldn’t need adjustment like traditional dentures do. Plus, diligent brushing and flossing do the trick on the daily. No other special measures are needed to keep your dental implant healthy and strong.

What do dental implants cost?

That’s a tough question, because every patient is different. Some may need a bone graft – a procedure for patients who experience bone loss and whose jaw bone may not be sufficient to accommodate a dental implant. Others may need a tooth extraction first, or must improve gum health before a dental implant can be installed.

In other words, the final cost of your dental implant greatly depends of the current health of your teeth, bone, and gums. Your Summit Dental Center dentist is your most important guide to determine the best course of action, and to help you make a decision in figuring out if dental implants are right for you.

Affordable dental implants – yes, it’s a thing!

At Summit Dental Center, we are transparent about the estimated cost of your dental implant ahead of time. Sure, you may see advertisements that promote dental implants at a very low cost, but we urge you to consider that not all dental implants are the same:

  • We use only the highest quality materials so you’ll never have to worry about whether your investment will last
  • We prepare a cost estimate for you to consider ahead of time; your estimate will include expenses associated with bone grafts, tooth extraction, or gum treatment, if needed
  • We consult with your dental insurance company, if insurance is available, and do our best to implement benefits as applicable; in many cases, dental insurance will not cover dental implants (because they are considered a cosmetic treatment), but that doesn’t mean we won’t try
  • We offer dental financing plans, and just about everyone can qualify! We don’t do credit checks, and we work hard to keep monthly payments as low as possible

Pain? What pain?

Dental implant surgery is a minor outpatient surgery. Summit Dental Center offers a full range of sedation options to keep pain at a minimum. A small level of discomfort can be expected with any type of surgery, but we make several choices available to assist with pain management:

  • Laughing gas combined with local anesthesia
  • Oral sedation
  • General anesthesia

Most Summit Dental Center patients opt for oral sedation for dental implant surgery. Oral sedation entails a prescription for sedative pills the patient takes ahead of surgery. At the time of surgery, the patient is in a relaxed, “semi-asleep” state that allows him or her to comply with the dentist’s request (such as “Please open your mouth”), while experiencing no pain and remembering practically nothing of the procedure afterward. Oral sedation necessitates that the patient organizes a ride home, following surgery, as we cannot permit a patient to operate a vehicle as the sedative wears off.
